Frequently Asked Questions

Are your photos any good?

Well, my wife says that they are... but it's your opinion that matters most! Have a look at my Portfolio and see if you agree!

Where are you based, and what areas do you cover?

I live near Bury St. Edmunds in Suffolk, and usually cover West Suffolk and Cambridgeshire. However, if your wedding is further afield, then that's not a problem for me - we'd just need to consider any necessary travel / accommodation expenses in the package price.

What style of photos can we expect from you?

I shoot weddings in a classic documentary (also known as reportage) style. This captures the subjects (i.e. you and your guests!) in the most authentic way possible, and ensures that you can enjoy your big day with minimal interference from me!

In terms of the specific "look" of the final images, I prefer an natural, timeless style of editing. I want the photos to be a truthful reflection of how your wedding looked on the day... plus, there's no better way of making a photo album look dated than by editing every shot to match this month's most popular Insta filter!

We like the unposed shots, but we also want to have some group shots. Can you do that too?

Of course! Most couples like to arrange a selection of group shots, featuring their nearest and dearest - I'm more than happy to accommodate this.

We don't like having our photo taken - can you help?

Don't panic! The vast majority of people feel uncomfortable having their picture taken by someone else, so a big part of my job is putting you at ease so that I can capture you at your best. As mentioned above, I prefer to shoot discreetly, so that you don't have a camera in your face all day long! (Full disclosure: my main motivation for being a photographer is so that I can hide safely behind the camera!)

We're having a "non-traditional" wedding - will you shoot it for us?

Absolutely - however you're celebrating your wedding, I'd be honoured to photograph it for you! Please just let me know what you have planned, and I'll do everything possible to do it justice.

How do we know that you'll give us what we want?

We'll meet before the wedding day to discuss your requirements, so that I can get to know you and get a real feel for how to capture your wedding at its finest. If, for any reason, I feel that I can't deliver what you're requesting, then I'll be honest and tell you.

Ahead of the big day, I will visit (wherever possible) and research your chosen venue, so that I'm familiar with it and know the most photogenic spots. For more info, feel free to read about my Booking Process.

How can you ensure that you don't miss anything on the day?

Experience, good quality equipment, and the knowledge of how to use it... I've been a photographer for over 20 years, and have attended many courses and workshops to improve my skills during this time. I also have a robust and reliable workflow, for example:

  • I will have multiple camera bodies and lenses with me on your wedding day, in case any stop functioning (unlikely, but it does happen!).
  • My cameras simultaneously record all images to two separate memory cards, again to provide backup and redundancy in case of card corruption.
  • Image files are stored on my computer plus on a separate hard drive, then also backed up to cloud storage.

What equipment do you use?

I use Sony full frame mirrorless cameras, and Sony GM lenses - these offer exceptional image quality and reliable performance. The exact camera / lens selections may vary from one wedding to another, as some venues may require wider-angle shots, or lenses that are more suitable to low-light conditions.

When editing photos, I use a colour-calibrated monitor to ensure accurate colours in the final images.

Do you film video and/or do #content creation?

No, I'm afraid not - I specialise in stills photography only.

Can we do a pre-wedding engagement photoshoot?

Yes! Many couples like to have an engagement shoot, so that they have some beautiful images to use for the wedding invitations and/or social media. As well as this, it's a great opportunity for you and me to get to know each other before your wedding, which ensures that we hit the ground running on the day itself.

We're already married, but your images are so amazing that we want you to photograph us - is that possible?

Absolutely! I offer anniversary shoots for couples celebrating 1-100 years together, so please get in touch if that's of any interest. Also, I won't judge if you fancy a photoshoot even if it's not your anniversary!

How about if we don't want to get married, but just want some pretty photos?

Yep, I can do that too - just drop me a line and we can arrange it!

How quickly will we receive our wedding photos?

I can provide a "highlights selection" of 20-25 edited images within 24 hours of your wedding. However, it takes time to review and edit a large number of photos to a high standard, so it usually takes up to a week to produce your final set of photos. As soon as the images are available, I'll share them with you via a private online gallery, where you can view and download all your beautiful shots!

What file format will the photos be delivered to us in?

All photos are shot in RAW file format to maximise image quality and dynamic range, but delivered to you as edited JPG files. This ensures that the final set of images are colour-corrected and well-exposed, and in a file format ready for for you to print and/or share on social media etc.

Are you on social media?

Reluctantly, yes. Feel free to follow me on Instagram, and please tag me if you're sharing any wedding photos that I take for you!

Are you insured?

Yes, I have full public liability, professional indemnity and equipment insurance coverage.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes, I have a clear DBS check.

Who owns the copyright on our wedding photos?

I own the copyright on all photos that I take, but grant you a licence to use them freely wherever you like. You're welcome to use them on social media or to make prints / albums from, without any restrictions. The only things that you're not permitted to do is pass them off as your own work, or sell them for profit.

Do you offer a print service for your photos?

No, but I can recommend some excellent printing companies for any albums, prints or other products that you may want.
